If you aren’t in the business of leaving the residence halls at all, December is a great time to start preparing for winter break. Here a few expert tips from housing on what to do before leaving for the end of the semester:

Use Up Any Food:

You wouldn’t want to come back after two weeks off to a terrible stench coming from your room. Make sure to use up any perishable food in the weeks leading up to break.

● Take Home Everything You Need:

Over the two week break, the residence halls will be closed and you won’t be able to access them until January. Make sure to take everything you need home (even stuff you THINK you might need) because you won’t be able to run back and grab it if you forget.

● Swap Out Seasonal Items:

Don’t want to deal with those fall decorations you brought with you at move-in anymore? Take home any clothes or decorations that seem a little off season to make room for winter related items. Swap those crop-tops for sweaters!

● Unplug:

Unplug any electrical items that won’t be in use over the break. It’s better to be safe than to have something over heat while you’re away.
Check with your RA for a detailed list of what to do before leaving for the break.
