Where to go to Beat the Summer Heat

Currently, Michigan’s weather is not cooperating for a fun summer outdoors. With the constant rain and cold, you might think it isn’t even summer. However, summer is here so go out and enjoy yourself!

.

One of the traditional hotspots for summer is Cedar Point. Located right on Lake Erie and given the fact that it’s a peninsula, you’re sure to have a lake breeze. Whether you want to hit the roller coaster capital, visit their water park, or relax on the beach, it’s less than a 2-hour drive from campus (perfect for a day trip).

.

.

Additionally, there are three Great Lakes within driving distance from campus. Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and Lake Michigan are great spots to spend some time this summer. The very edge of Lake Erie starts around Toledo, Ohio (about an hour from campus). There are multiple spots to take a dip or have some fun on the water, starting at Maumee Bay State Park. Lake Huron starts in St. Claire county about an hour and a half from Ypsilanti. Lake Michigan is one of the touristy spots in Michigan. With multiple small beach towns, Lake Michigan is a go to. It is about a 2-hour drive across the mitten. When you reach Lake Michigan, you can go north or south for an enjoyable time.

.

Rolling Hills is a water park close to campus with things for everyone, specifically young adults. There’s fun for all thrill levels, including the lazy river, water slides, and the wave pool. The drive from campus is short as well, less than 15 minutes. If you live in the county, rates are $6. If you are outside of the county it’s $10.

.

.

The zoos are also a fun place to enjoy the summer. The Detroit Zoo is roughly 45 minutes from campus, while the Toledo Zoo is less than an hour away. Walking around, looking at the animals, and tourist attractions within the zoo is a fun time.

.

.

Once the weather clears up, there are numerous options to enjoy the summer months. Pick one to enjoy and have fun.
