Understanding the UACDC

by blogemu

The University Advising and Career Development Center (UACDC) is located in 200 McKenny Hall. Students can be seen in the UACDC getting assistance from both Academic Advisors and career service professionals. There is also a satellite Career Service office located in the College of Business for those students that are not on main campus.

.

Academic Advisors specialize in working with exploratory students, but they’re ready and able to assist any undergraduate student with questions about the General Education program and their program requirements. Advisors meet with students to discuss upcoming and current courses, academic standing concerns, transfer course equivalencies, general education questions, and more. They assist students in understanding program progression and academic requirements. Some advisors in the UACDC also work with specialized groups of students, such as Military/Veteran students, International students, Individualized Studies Program (ISP) students, Second Bachelor’s students, and Dual-Enrolled students.

.

The UACDC provides career coaching and corporate relation management, which are two types of career development services. Career Coaches meet with students to help with major and minor exploration, resume assistance, and to discuss grad school options. Career Coaches assist students in exploring possible career paths through career assessments such as MBTI, StrengthsQuest, and Values/Motivated Card Sorts. These assessments help build a foundation for students to identify their top interest areas. Corporate Relations Managers meet with students for resume and cover letter assistance, interviewing skills, job search strategies, networking, job fairs/on-campus recruiting, and internship assistance. Career development staff work with current students, EMU alumni, prospective students, and employers.

.

The UACDC offers many programs during the fall and winter semesters to help students in their success at EMU. These programs include career fairs, Fast Track, group advising for Exploratory students, Eagle Expo, Registration Blitz, and First-Year Experience events.

.

.

“WeSupportYourGoals” is the mission statement shared by the UACDC and the five college advising offices. It means that staff will welcome any questions and concerns and will work with you to find the appropriate solution and resources to help solve your problem. The UACDC staff is here to help and want to see to it that you are successful here at EMU.
