Proper time management is an important skill to practice in college. Without being able to plan properly, your ability to fulfill daily tasks could suffer. Here are some tips on how to balance your schedule in college!

.

Set Concise and Attainable Goals

.

.

The most pivotal step in being able to manage your time requires goal setting. Be specific about what you want to achieve and construct an approximate timeline of when you want to attain the goals. Learn how to prioritize your most important tasks and think about how you will complete them effectively. Don’t just say what that you want to have “good grades”. Be specific about the GPA you desire to accomplish, how long you plan to study for each day, and how you will achieve this goal.

.

You Can’t Do Everything

.

.

.Getting involved in student organizations can be a great way to build your resume and establish new relationships with peers and possible mentors. However, when you begin to overextend yourself by joining everything, you defeat the purpose of being involved in the first place. Try to get involved in the organizations that will be the most beneficial to you but don’t overdo it. Managing your schedule will become a lot easier when you narrow down your involvement on campus to the extracurriculars that are the most important to you.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to turn things down. Not all opportunities are worth your time. When offered opportunities, use your best judgement to determine which ones will be the most beneficial. It’s better to do a few things and do them well rather than being involved in everything and doing an awful job.

It’s really difficult to manage your time properly if you wait until the last minute to do everything. If you procrastinate for any assigned task, eventually, you WILL fall behind. Mark due dates in an organized planner or notebook. If neither of those work, try using your cell phone! Putting things off for a long time can only hurt you. There are many factors and people that will try to negatively impact you. If you fall behind in certain aspects of your life, it’s okay to take some personal time for yourself. Taking the time that you need to focus on improving yourself does not make you a bad person.
