In Eastern Michigan University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), you have the opportunity to express yourself in a variety of ways. Students in the College of Arts and Sciences are involved in a broad spectrum of majors, minors, activities, and student organizations.
The individual departments in this college range from the School of Music and Dance, where students can craft their performing art skills, the School of Art and Design, where students can make and display their artistic creations, and the School of Communications, Media, and Theatre Arts, where students can learn about how to create content for different media platforms.
David Pierce Anderson, a senior majoring in Electronic Media and Film, has been heavily involved in all that his major has to offer. He first started as an ESPN 3 intern during his freshman year. Since then, he has been involved in other student-run media organizations such as ETV and the Eagle Filmmakers Association.
Some of the classes that he took while in the program included TV production, and film appreciation classes.
“Announcing Techniques and Media Literature have been two of my favorite classes that I have taken,” said Anderson. “Both of them were taught by professor Hammill, he retired last year, and I’m fortunate to have taken classes with him, he’s my favorite professor.”
Other opportunities for students in this school and program include hosting radio shows on the student-run Eagle Radio, writing articles for the Eastern Echo newspaper, and having an internship with WEMU 89.1, Eastern’s NPR station.
Of course, there is more to the College of Arts and Sciences than these programs.
Students in the theatre department have the chance to put on plays throughout the year, the Music department is home to the Marching Band, which performs the halftime show at every Eagles football game, and the Art and Design department is host to a gallery where art students get a chance to show their best work. The School of Arts and Sciences is the perfect place to explore your creative spirit.
