You exit your car, crammed full of boxes that contain clothes, personal belongings and other various knick-knacks that you decided to bring along on your new adventure to college.
I remember moving in to the residence hall and thinking to myself, “Holy crap, I have no idea what I’m doing.” Or, “I’ve never done anything like this, I’m freaking out!”
Never fear, this is a common thought for all new students entering college for the first time. Over the course of 3 or so weeks, I’ve developed a list of three helpful hints just to ensure that your first semester on campus is a memorable and enjoyable.
- GET INVOLVED: There are so many opportunities to get involved with the campus and your fellow students, and all you need to do is go out and ask around. Eastern Michigan University has a wide variety of activities and groups that can help meet anyone’s interests. These are a great way to meet new people and develop friendships that could last a lifetime.
- GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSORS: This may seem like a stretch for some people but getting to know your professors can be extremely helpful in the long run. They are there to help answer any questions you may have. If they are not able to answer your questions in person, they will have an email address that you can send a question to any time.
- JUST BREATHE: The transition from high school to college is a stressful time for some if not all teenagers. Though you may have an assortment of a various things flying your way during your first couple weeks, just stop for a moment and take a deep breath because everything is going to be alright. Trust me.
